Event #18: Monster Stack Day 1B

I'm back in action today from the Monster Stack NLH tourney (Event #18). This tournament has a deep and slow structure, with 50k starting stacks and 60 minute blind levels. We play ten levels today, and rebuys don't actually end until after the first level of day 2. That means we won't reach the money bubble today regardless.

Level 1

Getting started about halfway through Level 1 at table Red 508. Hoping for some run good and lots of patience. Nothing eventful so far. Seems like a decent table.

Level 2

42:00 - Call a raise to 800 in position with 65s. Flop is K65. Preflop better continues for 2k, and I raise to 5500  I get called and the turn is a T. I bet 2/3 pot when checked to me and get a call. At this point, I assume I’m up against a K or pocket pair above a 6. River is a K, which counterfeits me. Check check. She shows AK, and I lose. 33k left. Still fine.

25:00 - I pick up KK UTG and make it 800 to go. The button 3! to 2500, and the bb calls. I 4! to 11k and both players fold.

15:00 - I raise to 800 from the HJ with 9c7c. The cutoff and button call. Flop is T86 with two hearts. Bingo! I check, the cut off checks, and the button leads for 1600. I call and the cutoff calls. Turn is a black 5. I check again, so does the cutoff, and the button leads for 2500. I sprint the trap and raise to 10k. Cut off folds, and the button calls. The river is a Td. That spooked me a little, so I checked with the intention to call any bet. The button checks behind. I show my flopped straight, and it’s good. Back to 53k.

8:00 - I have KT in a battle of the blinds. I see the flop at no extra charge, and it comes AT8 rainbow. The SB leads for 800, and I call figuring she’d have raised any A from the SB. The turn is a Q, and we go check check. The river is a J. SB checks. I bet 1500. SB calls, and I show her the bad news.

Going on break with 56.2k.

Level 3

One elimination at my table so far. The 3 and 6 seats tangled with AK < QQ. The table seems to be mostly serious rec players, though I think one of the players might be a low level pro. Either way, it’s better than the meat grinder of a table I had in the mixed Omaha hi-lo, and there’s no Captain ManBun around to make everyone miserable.

I have been stone card dead this whole level. I think I’ve seen one flop in the first 55 mins. Next hand I get 99, see a flop, and the flop is AKT. After a bet and a call, I have to muck.

Level 4

Seat 3 opens from UTG, and I 3! to 3800 with QQ. Seat 3 calls. The flop is 234 rainbow. She checks, and I bet 3000. She calls, and the turn is a 9s. She checks, I bet 10k, and she calls. The river is a Js, a third spade. She checks, and I check behind. She shows As8s for a tap-tap flush. I’m down to 29.6k.

Raise pre with KdTd and get two callers. The flop is 732 with 2 diamonds. I continue for 2000 and get no callers.

At 31.5k at the break.

Level 5

I 3! with TT and get two callers. The flop is A45. After a donk bet and a raise, I have to fold. 27k left. Still fine, but it would be nice to start trending in the other direction.

I’m out. I 4! shove with QQ and get called by AK. An A in the door, and I’m headed to the rail.

Nothing to show for it so far, but I’m generally happy with my play so far. I’ll keep pluggin.
