Event # 28: NLH/PLO Mixed

After a day off to deal with a WSOP cold, I'll be back in action today playing Event 28: $600 Mixed NLH/PLO. This event features 30k starting stacks, and 30 minute levels. I cashed this event last year, and I'm prepared to fire 2 bullets at it. After some bad luck last week, let's hope for some better run outs!

Level 1

One flaw with the current WSOP buy in system is that it allows players to wait, seemingly indefinitely, to sit down after they’ve received a seat assignment. That can lead to some annoying waiting for the table to get going. I ended up waiting about 15 mins today. Not the end of the world, but it’s kind of frustrating.

Level 2

Along with Captain ManBun, another common character at the WSOP is “Confused Old Foreigner.” These guys never know what’s going on, and they constantly aggravate the other players at the table to explain stuff to them. It’s a bit early, but Seat 7 sure looks like he’s going to be a COF.

Raise pre with 9876 ds. Seat 6 3!, and I call. Flop is K52 none of my suits. When seat 6 continues, I fold. 27.8k at the end of the level.

Level 3

We have a new entry into our cast of characters. Seat 2 is “tries to short the blinds guy.” He keeps arguing with the dealer about whether he’s already posted his blind. These guys aren’t the worst, but they’re annoying and slow down the game. Meanwhile, COF is playing absolute trash and nailing every flop.

After a bunch of limps, I raise to 2k with red AA43 ds. Flop is A23 all clubs. After we check through on the flop and a 4c comes on the river, there’s a bet and a shove in front of me. I have to fold.

Level 4

Finally drag a pot. AK34 with K high hearts UTG. I check call a raise and we go multi-way to the flop. Flop is KK5. I check in stream and it checks through. Turn is an 8h. BB leads for half-pot. I consider a raise but just call with multiple players behind. Cutoff calls as well. River is a Qh. We all check, and my K high flush is good. Back up over 30k.

Win a small one with KK in UTG+1. Raise to 1100 and the blinds both call. Flop is a scary AJT, and we check the flop. Turn is a 2, and when it’s checked to me, I go for a delayed cbet. It works, and I drag a few thousand chips.

31k at the first break

Break

I’m walking through the corridor and someone plows into me going full speed. Bad luck for them, as they end up sprawling on the floor and spilling their drink. Who could it be? It’s Captain ManBun! I’d say I was sorry, but I’m not. He’s still a douche. Now he’s a wet douche with a bruised butt.

Level 5

Lost a small one and won a smaller one. About 29k. And then win another small one. Back up to 31k.

Level 6

Double up a short stack when I lose a flip with AK v. 88. Down to 26k. Miss a flush draw and I’m at 22.5k.

Get down to 20k and then muscle my opponents out of a pot on 4th street. Back up to 28k.

Level 7

About 30% of the field is already out at the beginning of level 7.

I chopped a pot when both of us had top full house with AK on an AAQK6 board. Lots of fireworks to end up chopping.

Get a semi-bluff through with a double belly buster. Back up over 30k again.

Busted. Played 9d8d on the button to a raise, and it goes all in on the Td7d4s flop. AT holds against my open ended straight flush draw, and I’m out.

Rebuy

At new table, pick up KKJT ds. Raise and get three bet. I call. Have to shut it down when the flop comes A88. Down to 21.6k.

Level 8

Won a couple of small pots, but nothing too exciting. Ended up finishing the level at 26.5k. Going on break.

Level 9

Get more than a double up. Raise with Ac5c from the cut off and get two callers. There’s 11k in the pot and I have 18k. On a KcTh6c flop, I bet 5k get called by the button and the BB check raises all in. The button and I both call. I’m up against K2 and a set of tens. The turn brings in my flush and the river is another club. I’m up to 63k.

Level 10

Pay some blinds. Then raise in late position with T976 ds. The flop is AAJ, and I have to fold to a bet and a call. 56k

Paid more blinds. Down to 52k.

Raise with AKQJ and don’t even make a pair. Cbet doesn’t work. Down to 41k.

Level 11

My aces and fives loses to aces and eights. Down to 17k. Going to need some run good soon.

Raised pot pre with AKT9, and the flop comes all low clubs. I don’t have any clubs, so I have to fold to pressure. Down to 10.5k.

More than double with AT87 ds when I make aces up. Up to 26k.

Paid the blinds. Down to 21k. Looks like about ⅓ od the field is going to make it to the end of the rebuy period.

Level 12

The blinds have chewed me down to 4bbs. Looking for a spot.

Get T8 suited UTG +1, and I shove it. Get called by 33, and I actually win a damn flip! Back up to the 25k. About to be the big blind again, and my table breaks!

Land in the cutoff and fold util I’m UTG. Pick up AJs and ship it. Folds to the BB, who wakes up with TT. I miss the flop, but the turn is an A. The river 2 is a blank, and J double again. I’m at 53.5k.

And against all odds, I make it to the 3rd break. I have 47.5k

Level 13

Coming back to 48k, so I guess I won one of the race offs. Blinds are 2k/3k/3k, so I have 16bbs and an M of 6. Not healthy by any means, but I’m out of “push every decent hand” territory.

Avoid disaster in the first hand. Call a raise in the bb and flop second nut flush. I fold to heavy action in front of me, and they show down nut flush and top set. When the board pairs, top set takes it down. Pick up the blinds the next hand, and I’m at 45k.

Get 88 in middle position and raise. One caller. I continue on QQT board and get called. Turn is a 4, and I ship it. He folds. Up to 67k.

Paid the blinds. 59k.

Get it all in against a shorty on Q84 board with KKT2. He shows an 8 and some back door draws. The turn and river are blanks, and I’m up to 90k.

Level 14

Raised pre and got called by the big blind. He calls my c-bet and we check through on the turn. On the river, I shove 46k with nothing but bottom pair, and it gets through.

Call on the BB with 9865 and flip a wrap. The flop checks through, and I call a bet on the flop. I bet 22k on the river when I make the nuts, but no takers. Up to 143k.

We’re about 285 from the money, and I’m above an average stack.

Call a 10k raise on the button with Ts8s. Flop is Qd7s6s. Raiser leads for 10k again, and I flat with my gut shot straight flush draw. He checks the J o. The turn. I lead for ½ pot, and he folds. 172k.

Paid blinds. 162k.

Level 15

Raise with AK65 ds and get two caller. I flop kings up. I bet ½ pot and get no action. Up to 194k.

Paid blinds. 181k.

Level 16

Paid blinds. 166k.

Flop two pair and a straight draw. Paid off two bets and ended up losing to better two pair. Down to about 120k.

Got moved to another table, and flopped two pair. Had to fold to pressure, but lost about 40k. Down to about 74k. Trending the wrong way.

I'm in bad shape. Just doubled a shorty with AKJT ds against AQQT. He made Qs full. I'm down to about 6bbs. We’re 20 from the bubble, and I may have to survive an all in to cash this thing.

I have 38k at the break. Going to come back to 4.5bbs. Looks like we’ll be about 13 off the money when we come back. It’s going to be tight.

Level 17

Two hands after we came back from dinner break, we were hand for hand. By that point, I’d folded my blinds once, and I was down to 18k. We broke the bubble on the first hand, and were in the money.

Second hand after, I shove in the cut off with 45o and the bb calls blind. He has 23. I make a pair of 4s, and it’s best. Up to 48k.

I pick up 99 UTG and it’s an insta-ship with 6 bbs. UTG +1 wakes up with KK, and I’m out.

It was a good run today, and it’s nice to break the seal with a cash. Hopefully that’s a sign of more cashes to come.
